One more tremendous achievement in the field of VR hardware came up on the success list of PlayStation in the new shape of VR2 headset. On 22 Feb, Sony revealed the new stunning design of next VR headset generation, PS VR2 headset.
In this new generation not only the design is fascinating, but it has many more interesting features as compared with the previous VR headsets. PS VR2 headset has a comparative shape as the PS VR2 Sense controller, taking on a matching “orb” look. Players will feel the 360-degree view with its circular orb shape. They will enjoy playing in the virtual reality world with this new headset.
Similarities with PS5 Console
The users might notice some similarities between PS VR2 and PS5 console. Because, the design team had VR headset next generation in mind while they were creating PS5 console. That’s why one can say that PS VR2 headset was inspired by PS5 family of products look. However, PS5 console possess flat edges for the purpose of being displayed on flat surface. Whereas, PS VR2 has more round shape because it comes in persistent human contact. In this feature PS VR2 headset is similar to the rounded edges of the DualSense controller and Pulse 3D headset.
PS VR2 headset will not only enhance the decor of your living room, but it will take you to the point where you will forget that what you are using either a headset or controller. It will expand your game experience and will make it even more enjoyable. The design team paid very handy responsiveness towards the ergonomics of the device. Moreover, they performed broad variety of testing to make it sure that the headset is comfortable to the different head sizes.
Luckily, first PS VR headset had very positive feedback regarding its ergonomics with a balance weight plus having a simple adjustable headband. So, the good things continued in the case of PS VR2 headset too. PS VR2 has similarity in many more features of PS VR like the scope of headset’s adjustment that places the area of scope nearer or further away. Similarly, the stereo headphone jack is also the same. So, the players will be comfortable due to the familiarity with the same features.
Along with the same comfortable features, PlayStation added a few advanced features to PS VR2 headset, such as:
- A lens adjustment dial- to adjust distance between eyes and lens, so to optimize the view
- A slight reduction in weight- with new build-in motor for headset feedback makes it comfortable for users
- Stunning visual reliability in 4K HDR and state-of-art graphical version- improved tracking like inside-out camera tracking
- In-built PS VR2 Sense controller- develop an exceptionally profound sensation of immersion
- A new vent design- it might be the most enjoyable and favorite most part of PS VR2 headset for the users
Yujin Morisawa, Senior Art Director at SIE who played main role in the design creation of PS VR2 says:
“When I started to work on the design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, one of the areas I wanted to focus on first was the idea of creating a vent in the headset to let air out, similar to the vents on the PS5 console that allows airflow. Our engineers came up with this idea as a good way to allow ventilation and avoid having the lens fog up while players are immersed in their VR games, I worked on many design concepts to achieve this, and in the final design, you can see there is a little space in between the top and front surface of the scope that contains the integrated ventilation. I am really proud of how this turned out and the positive feedback I have gotten so far. I hope our PlayStation fans will also agree, and I can’t wait for them to try it out.”

Though it was a great challenge for the designing and engineering teams to build a slighter design with innovative features for the improvement of first headset, they proved it could be possible when experts noticed the final design.
Emotions of gamers are high, and they are enthusiastically waiting for PS VR2 launching. They are excited to have remarkable experience of virtual reality with this new generation of VR headset.
